It is always exciting to change locations and, let me tell you, moving from the Pacific Northwest to the Southwest is a huge change. I chose some photos that capture some of my favorite things here in Arizona - cactus, skies, & flowers. (I tried to shoot the warmth, but couldn't get the focus just right.)   ; )

Traveling through several states on the way south for the winter gave me a chance to see the beauty in wide open spaces of land and sky. It challenges my eye to find something out of the ordinary in all that openness.

Ok, so now you know one of my weaknesses... wildflowers. I will bring wildflowers into my home as often as I bring flowers from my garden. I was driving along in the countryside when ahead of me were these brilliant strips of flowers being raised for seed. I was in heaven!!

A recent trip to Canada took me through Alberta and British Columbia. There are so many breath-taking scenes - around every turn in the road with mountains, lakes, rivers, & animals. I can only give you a glimpse of the magnificent, jaw-dropping beauty. Some of the power in this area is being surrounded by the vastness... I never get bored with driving through Jasper, etc.

Playing with black and white is fun for me. It makes you wonder what era the picture might be from - old or current?? I tend to want to explore the picture more closely to see if I can tell from details in the photo. I also love to focus the attention on the contents of the picture and not let the colors distract your eye. Structures lend themselves to b & w because the structure itself is outlined so definitely.

Summer is a time of relaxing, travel, family and fun for me. I love being outside enjoying the warm weather (and we actually got some this year...). During a recent trip to Canada, I found some more scenery that inspired me to take photographs... like that takes anything too awesome. Most are taken on the fly as we drove by - it's more challenging than stopping to take that perfect picture!!

I have been accused of being obsessed by water as I spend the summer in Oregon after being in Arizona for 6 months. I do miss the rivers, creeks, & falls that make Oregon so green... maybe not the puddles though! These pictures are taken on the Alsea River and at Alsea Falls.

When I was growing up in Eastern Oregon, I linked summer and wheat harvest. The sight of waving fields of golden grain, the smell of ripe wheat, the combines working their way through the fields... I've been privileged this summmer to return to that experience. Love it!

In the Pacific Northwest summer has been hiding out... but I now have proof that it has finally arrived. An abundance of flowers have arrived and decked out the countryside! (I am not using a tripod - it's all hand held.)

This one's mine!!

After spending a day in Cascade Locks on the Columbia River in Oregon, I chose to share the river, and views from the island. Very special place to the Native Americans and such a beautiful scene... If you haven't ever visited the Columbia River Gorge, please put it on your wish list of vacation spots.

I love to photograph the things in nature that inspire me in their minute detail, their newness, their color, their uniqueness, their grandness. Maybe I just love to take pictures so I can remember the amazing things created for us!
